Outgoing 2-28-2011

I used my Letter Writers Alliance stationery for the first time today. I also printed out one of their Penpal Application Forms- very funny
Mailart 47/365: me and Winnie - photo was printed on normal copy paper, colored with colored pencils and then sewed on by hand to a garden photo ripped from a book
I recently ordered some old stamps and I got them in the mail today. I'm so excited! This is the first letter I'm using them on.  I'm definitely going to be ordering more when these are gone!

Incoming - Last week in February

Two wonderful postcards from 365ers, spopod and PostMuse... it was the first time I've been sent a zentangle and I enjoyed it a lot! They are even more impressive in real life than they are on the internet.

I remember seeing the Tofurkey Thief on the Mailart365 website and thinking it was so hilarious. I was thrilled when I saw it in my mailbox.  It makes me laugh out loud.

Redwall (Brian Jacques) Swap-Bot Swap

The Redwall swap was a lot of fun for me! I received the wonderful squirrel warrior from Karli on swap-bot.
The second postcard is the one I made... a pen and watercolor sketch of a Redwall hare.  Eulalia!!

There was one other participant, it was small but fun!
If I can get a photo of her postcard, I'll post that as well.

MailArt from my awesome poppa

It is so wonderful to get mailart, especially from my dad, who always gets excited about the things that I love, and makes them his own too.

This one has real feathers on the front and back of the envelope!  He just found them, he does not kill birds.
Front and back of another one sent to me.  These are Australian Cattle dogs, the kind of dog that we have: Mattie

A mailart that he sent to my boyfriend, Clay, so that he wouldn't be jealous of all the awesome mail I get. :-)

Presidents' Day

This was not really sent through the mail... delivered by hand to my boyfriend. :-)
The "stamp" is just selvage left over from the Hawaiian Rain-forest stamps.

Swap-Bot Swap: Redwall, Brian Jacques Handmade Postcard

Brian Jacques, author of the Redwall books, passed away this month.  I love his books and I've created a swap on Swap-Bot to celebrate his work.

The swap:
Send 1 handmade postcard to 1 partner.
You can draw, paint, collage, sew, add quotes, whatever! Just make sure that it is based around the Redwall books.

You can set up an account with Swap-Bot for free if you are not already a member.

Some of the things I loved about his books:
the lavish feasts
the riddles
the animals' accents, wot wot

 Riddle Song
If string cannot sing then answer this riddle,
What sings as sweet as the strings of a fiddle,
The fiddlestring sings, but it never can throw,
An arrow so far as the string of a bow,
But a bow plays a fiddle and I'll marry thee,
If you give a bright bow of ribbon to me!

Incoming 2-7-2011

A postcard from my aunt in Florida.  I usually am not the kind of person who prefers exotic beaches and palm trees, but this postcard has captured my desires perfectly.  After this much snow and icky slush in Boston, I am ready for the beach!!

A postcard from Andy Geezer, the creator of the MailArt365 project and the website http://myrealwall.blogspot.com/.  Thanks Andy!

Also, here is the great stamp he used.  I love these Winnie the Pooh stamps from the UK! Last year I reread the Winnie the Pooh and House at Pooh Corner... They still make me laugh out loud...
“If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

A postcard from Morrissey, another 365er... I love her sense of humor.

A postcard from Jennie Hinchcliff... I bought her book, Good Mail Day, (co-authored with Carolee Wheeler) before I had joined the MailArt365 project, so it's been really cool to get mail from her!

From RiaViewMirror, her blog here.

The piece of paper in the middle looks like it's from a check- very interesting.

Michalis in Greece, sent me a monotype.  The paper it's on is almost tissue thin!  I was impressed with his stamp placement on the envelope too.  He layered stamps over one another.  I would be scared to do this myself, because it seems like something the postoffice wouldn't like, but it worked for him and it looks great!

And finally, my favorite one, because my dad made it. He made this envelope out of seed packets that we bought and planted together.  He sent me an article about a border collie that knows over 1,000 words!

Our dog, Mattie, is an Australian Cattle dog, similar in temperament and energy to Border Collies.

I think she's that smart too.

Outgoing 2-6-2011

I've been sick for quite a while, so I haven't done much mailing, but I'm finally feeling better and today I put together a little package for a cousin of mine who had a birthday recently.

I included two magazine/catalogs that I pick up for free at the university.  They are great for making envelopes out of, and my cousin expressed interest... All of it packaged in a cereal box- my favorite kind of cereal! Special K with red berries.  When I studied abroad in France I ate this cereal except that it was EVEN BETTER! In France it had strawberries, raspberries and cherries in it! Sadly, I haven't been able to find it that way anywhere in the US.
A drawing I did on the inside of the card.  Recently I've been getting back into drawing... inspired by the MailArt 365 project.
Back of the cereal box/envelope- Some clipped photos from a brochure for a Boston aquarium.  You can see I did the sketches from some of these little photos.
