My reading style is to come up with mammoth reading projects that will take years if I ever finish, and to tackle them simultaneously. Such as: read a book from every author in Clay's extensive science fiction collection, read a book from every country, read all of Shakespeare's works.
I started my World Reading Project in January. It took me a while to decide what would qualify... I decided to count books from countries that no longer exist (like the Ottoman Empire or something) as from the current country in that location. I waffled a bit about what to do with authors that have immigrated. At first I thought I'd only read books from authors who still live in their mother country, but then I realized that immigration stories are also important and can tell a lot about a culture and country. So I'm reading some books by authors who have immigrated but identify with their mother country.
With 198 countries, I expect this will take me... 7, 8 years? I'm having fun along the way.
I'm going for a mix of contemporary fiction, classics, poetry, history, graphic novels, whatever strikes my fancy.
