Homemade Postcards

Two homemade postcards going out into the world

Jennie Hinchcliff definitely shows mastery

The paper on the back is from a children's handwriting book that I picked up from Goodwill a while ago.  It has fun lines to write on, as well as lots of great illustrations like the cute sleepy sheep!

Postcard Mailart from Poppa

Mailart from my Poppa.  He told me that when he saw this picture of the man looking at the ram, it seemed like he was gazing into its eyes with forbidden love.

At first I thought it was funny that he wrote "postcard" on it, but my dad always tapes his mailart to within an inch of its life whether it's an envelope or a postcard, so I guess it was necessary to distinguish between the two. haha

It makes me so happy that my dad makes stuff like this.  It's so easy for him to get excited about the things I love, whether it be horses/mules or mailart, and when he does, he makes it his own.

He made me the most beautiful and special birthday present I've ever received, and I think I'm going to post about it in a while.  Right now I just want to keep it private for a little while.  But it's the most beautiful piece of folk art.

Typewriters!

When I was on vacation in Maryland, we went to visit my boyfriend's mom.  It was a lovely time altogether, but the part pertinent to letter writing is that I got to type a letter on a typewriter! My boyfriend had one stashed away in the basement.  So of course I wrote a letter to my parents.  It was so much fun! And I realized how I need practice typing! I've used one before and I've always been really enamored of them.

We have lots of old Christmas letters and things from my grandparents that were written on a typewriter.  That has made typewriters very sentimental for me, because they passed away before I was old enough to remember anything about them.  I like to think that I've written enough letters that my future grandchildren will be able to know me even if I pass away before they are born.

I'm planning on keeping some empty space in my suitcase for the next trip to Maryland so that I can bring it back home! Once it's here, where it will live is a mystery, because my desk is already piled up with way too much stuff!

Hula Hooper Extraordinaire

This is going out to one of my best friends, Abby.  She's a crazy amazing good hula-hooper. I can barely keep those things up off the ground.  She has made her own hula hoop because most of the ones sold are child-size.  Right now she's hanging out in Slab City, which is a really bizarre place.  It doesn't have any government services. She has to go to a nearby town to pick up her mail.  This is the second place she's been where the address is just "General Delivery" and then the town's name. She's the kind of person who likes to wander.
I think it would be too hot and dusty/sandy there for me, and I know I would miss having a nearby post office!

Here's a video of her dancing in Slab City.
And here's an amazing photo of a pick-up in Slab City.
Who know's... maybe my friend has ridden in that!

Sent & Resent

I got this envelope returned to me because they couldn't find the postage!
I wasn't trying to trick the post office.
:-)
Thankfully "I'm a Superhero" received it after I resent it.
Would you have found it without the arrows?
